Background
Doug Oldfield has substantial experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), having served in the following roles:
As a Mediator, Arbitrator, & Discovery Referee:
- Arbitrator for over 35 years with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), formerly known as NASD, where he often serves as Chair of a three-person arbitration panel, or as a single arbitrator, deciding disputes in San Francisco between investors and stockbrokers or stock brokerage firms and stockbrokers.
- Private arbitrator for over 10 years.
- Mediator for over 10 years, both in his private mediation practice and by frequent referrals from the Court in its Court Directed Mediation program in the Monterey County Superior Court.
- Discovery Facilitator for over 10 years, seeking to resolve discovery disputes referred to him by the Monterey County Superior Court.
As a Community Leader
Doug Oldfield is a strong believer in community service, having served as follows:
- Big Sur Marathon Foundation: Currently serving on the Board of Directors as Vice-Chair, and as a member of the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Development & Allocations Committee and Personnel Committee.
- Carmel Mission Foundation, which raised over $14 million to restore and preserve the historic improvements and artifacts of the Carmel Mission: Former President, Chair, Board Member, and Executive Committee Member.
- Run in the Forest 5k and 10k Run-Walk: Founder and a former Race Director of the run-walk annual fund-raising event for Stevenson School, which is still ongoing after more than 25 years.
- Run in the Name of Love Run-Walk (no longer active after COVID): Former Founding Board Member and Start Director of this charitable fundraiser in Carmel, sponsored by the Big Sur Marathon Foundation.
- Monterey County Bar Foundation: Former Board Member.
- Monterey County Bar Association: Former Board Member.
- Carmelite Monastery: Current Lay Minister & Member of Knights of Columbus.
- College Legal Clinic, Inc.: Former Executive Director of this 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, which was one of the first lawyer referral services certified by the State Bar of California (State Bar #000022) and is still active; under Doug Oldfield’s guidance, it served six college and university campuses with three offices, 60 student interns, and 150 attorneys with free consultations and referrals.

- While at Hastings, Doug served as a judicial extern to Chief Justice Rose Bird at the California Supreme Court on her Central Staff.
